Logic Pro X and Studio Recording Techniques
Our very newest instructor Vivian Lawrence (stay tuned for Vivian’s teacher feature) will be heading up this 10-week course for ages 13 and up interested in learning more about music software and recording techniques.
This is a course that Mr. Lawrence has also taught at other studios/schools, but The Music Abode students will be receiving a top learning experience with a smaller class size and discounted rates.
We could summarize the course for you, but even better, here’s a sneak peak at the class syllabus:
1. Overview Logic x music software
Playback engine, multi track, how to add audio clips, making tracks stereo and mono, how to add effects, add midi track, various cut tools, slice tracks, marquee tool, loop feature, solo, mute, panning.
2. Introduction to MIDI.
Midi inputting, quantization, velocity, moving midi around, piano roll midi input, renaming tracks, colour coding, creating groups, midi FX- arpeggiator, metronome, time signature
3. Create your own beat using virtual MIDI instrument (Project 1).
Minimum 5 multi track , ESX sampler tool complete project and bring back next class
4. Create your own song (Project 2)
Drummer feature introduction, use form intro-verse-chorus-verse II-chorus-bridge-chorus-outro, labeling headers with sections, create markers, record using instruments like – piano, bass, drums, strings, beats.

5. Introduction to Audio
various cable names, wrapping cables, phantom power, signal flow , preamps, mono vs stereo, automation, adding effects, compression, reverb , delay talk about story and music project due class 9 (project 3)
6. Miking techniques and Microphones
Drums, acoustic guitar, amp miking, bass guitar, vocals, BGV’s, Mic positions, stacking, different settings on mic, frequency spectrum, study mic frequency graph, memorize industry standard microphones and applications
Introduction to mixing, download stems and play with effects, rough mix to a song, sample rate set, eq, parallel compression, compression, panning, groups, automation, cleaning tracks, pitch correction, flextime, bussing, aux tracks
8. Mixing part II
Listen to song project homework (project 2), mixing tricks, kick drum, bass frequencies, in class song project mix.
final mix project introduce and due class 10 (Project 4)
9. Mastering and Sound Designing- movie clip
Listen to Story music project (project 3), master song project 2, izotope 6 overview
Show examples of sound design, various scenes, hit points
start working on final project 3 mins video clip (Project 5)
