At yesterday’s Blossoming Musicians Showcase we asked students to complete a short questionnaire, here’s what they said…
Out of 25 responses
16 piano, 3 guitar, 3 voice, and 3 piano & voice students
winning by a just a hair at 36% of your vote, your favorite thing about your instrument is:
The sound it makes!
Our instruments’ sound produces not just a sound we hear, but also a vibration of resonance we can feel. After becoming fully deaf, Beethoven used the vibration to help compose his famous 9th Symphony. The sound and feeling of musical instruments have the power to invoke different emotions; for example, major and minor tones.
Also, Being able to play for others and Expressing your creativity tied with each getting 32% of your vote!
When answering “what words of wisdom would you give to a new student learning your instrument?”, 40% of students mentioned practicing!
Practicing can sometimes be a difficult task, but musicians learn quickly how much you can accomplish with extra time spent playing. Practicing does not always have to be practice, it can also be called “playtime”, its all in your perception and attitude when you sit down to learn a new piece.
Some other quotable words of wisdom:
“…keep trying” – Jaxon Kearley and Daylene Higgins
“Have fun and play songs you enjoy” – Kayli Choy
“Always play loud” – Caleb Stupin
“Music is something to have fun with, not a forced hobby” – Helen Zhao
“Believe in yourself and give it your best” – Kate Graham
“Have fun!” – Haydon Chew
“Keep practicing or listen to your favorite tune and you will go far.” – Amber Russell
“Practice as much as you can and try lots of different types and styles of music. There’s a lot to learn and play.” – Ali Murphy
Thank you to all who participated in this fun survey, what amazing students we have!
