Teacher Feature: Christine Orton – Piano Instructor
Piano teacher Christine Orton has a very unique background that is sure to inspire her students! Christine is a self-taught composer who specializes in all genres of music. She is classically trained in piano and is working toward her BA in Musical Arts from California Institute of the Arts.
Christine took private classical piano lessons from the age of 8 with Jennifer Eklund, creator of the Piano Pronto method book series. The most fascinating thing about her teacher student relationship, is Ms. Eklund would test her education materials with Christine, and now her method is known worldwide. In other words, Christine was a major part of developing the Piano Pronto series. Thereafter, Christine went on to study more vocal and composition techniques with instruction, but also began freelance work with her compositions without any collegiate guidance. Once she discovered music, piano, singing and composition was her passion, she began working toward her music degree.
As a teacher, Christine finds that the most important thing you can do when learning an instrument is to practice everyday. Her greatest advice for a new musician is to “find the instrument that they feel the most passionate about and stay with it throughout their lives. And also to not feel discouraged when something is too difficult because music is a language that takes time to understand!”
