Teacher Feature: Guitar Instructor Tadashi Kuriyama
Guitar teacher Tadashi Kuriyama is a great new addition to our teaching team! With his Guitar Performance degree from CSU Long Beach and his teaching background, Tadashi is well rounded to successfully teach all styles, levels, and ages.
Tadashi has been teaching for the past 10 years prior to and after graduating with his AA in Music from El Camino College and his BA in Jazz Guitar Performance from Cal State University Long Beach in 2012. He has studied with some of the current great jazz guitarists Ron Eschete and Michael Higgins. While Tadashi’s passion is playing and performing jazz, he is proficient in many different styles, including pop and rock, and electric and acoustic guitar.
Tadashi’s teaching style focuses on fundamentals, fingering, and note reading to begin. Starting with basics to set a strong foundation for his students, but he also makes sure to include some fun relevant songs so students don’t lose interest with the technical aspects of note reading and theory.
A famous quote Tadashi would like to share with his prospective students:
“Your talent determines what you can do. Your motivation determines how much you are willing to do. Your attitude determines how well you do it.” ― Lou Holtz
