Teacher Feature: Piano Instructor Sophia Song
Teacher Sophia Song comes to The Music Abode with her BA degree in Music Performance from University of Massachusetts Lowell and 15 years of teaching experience. She is a very organized, positive, encouraging and fun teacher with experience teaching all ages and levels.
After many years of private lessons, Sophia attending Chapel Hill Chauncy Hall a private arts school for piano and later graduated from Lowell University. During this time, she taught private lessons with church, after school programs, and through a private music school. After graduating and for the past 10 years, she returned to South Korea where she taught lessons at the Seoul Music Academy preparing students for performances, recitals, competitions and assessments.
Sophia first started lessons at age 6 and always remembers the caring instruction of her first teacher. She has a fond memory of her teacher walking her home after a lesson because it was getting dark out. Not only did she prepare Sophia for piano competitions, but she also took care of her like she was family. She always appreciated the love her teacher had for her students. Because of this experience, Sophia would like her beginning students to feel the same warm experience, like music is their best friend and one day, they will be able to feel comfortable reading notes and counting beats to enjoy their accomplishments. She is eager and happy to be a part of their music journey.
Sophia’s favorite music quote is “when word fails music speaks”.
Learning music is like learning new language. It needs patience and practice. I believe in my students as they already are little Mozarts.
