Teacher Feature: Timothy Combs Piano Instructor
As Timothy Combs wraps up his final year at Cal State Fullerton with his BA in Music Education, he is eager to move forward toward obtaining his teaching credential. Tim’s career goal includes becoming a band director for elementary or junior high ages. He has taught private lessons throughout his college years and is looking forward to narrowing his focus of both teaching in the classroom and continuing private lessons through The Music Abode.
Tim began private piano lessons at age 7 and grew exponentially as a pianist throughout the years. Participating in the MTAC certificate of merit program he achieved 7-10 with honors. He was also awarded scholarships through MTAC from 2009-2012. During this time in Northern California he obtained AA in Humanities from Los Medanos College then relocated to Fullerton College to recieve his AA in Music. After transferring to Cal State Fullerton in 2015, he became well versed in percussion, and various brass and woodwind instruments. Tim is available to teach beginning fundamentals of these instruments. In addition, Tim is currently part of the Men’s Chorus for Cal State Fullerton. He is also available to teach beginning vocal students as well as those piano students who would like to learn to accompany themselves vocally.
Over the past several years, Tim has been very involved in the music community. While in Northern California, Tim was his church pianist and also a youth leader. At Los Medranos he was a student accompanist and tutor for private piano, voice and guitar lessons. More recently, Tim has spent the last 3 years teaching private in-home lesssons.
With his classical upbringings and BA in Music Education, he is able to bring variety to his lessons that engage all types of student personalities. Tim has such a vast and expansive music background, he is a perfect fit for our teaching team!
