Who we are
Kim O'Brien, founder of The Music Abode, is a dedicated music business entrepreneur with a deep passion for music education. With 20 years of teaching experience and 15 years at the helm of The Music Abode, Kim is adept at connecting talented, committed instructors with the needs of growing students. Her teaching journey spans from students as young as 6 to adults, with several alumni pursuing careers in musical theater, music education, and other creative fields.
Kim's musical journey began at age seven with private piano lessons. By age nine, she was performing at superior levels for the Michigan and National Federation of Music. After relocating to California at age 12, she excelled in percussion and was honored as Percussion Player of the Year. During high school, she played piano for the Valencia High School orchestra and was named Musician of the Year. Kim graduated from San Diego State University with a major in Communications and a minor in Music Education.
In addition to her expertise in piano, Kim has developed a love for the cello and ukulele. She teaches both group and private ukulele classes, showcasing her curated selection of Kala ukuleles at Seaside Gallery and Goods. Kim, along with her husband Patrick O’Brien and their daughter Winnie, actively participates in Seaside Gallery events and monthly ukulele classes.
Kim’s goal is to continue offering personalized, high-quality music education through The Music Abode, fostering the best music success stories for students across Orange County.
